March 2009 –With the successful completion of the Constituent Assembly (CA) election on April 10, 2008, Nepal took another step forward on the road to peace.

March 2009 – Citizen expectations are high in Nepal following last year’s elections, as people are looking for government to provide customary public services.

November 2008 – The seating of the Constituent Assembly and the formation of a new government have raised Nepali citizens’ expectations of government.

Nepal is emerging from a 12-year conflict that disproportionately affected youth, leaving many communities deprived of youth leaders and with few opportunities for positive activities and dialogue.

September 2008 : Youth remain key actors in motivating Nepali communities to work in support of the peace process. However, youth in the Central Terai are under a great deal of pressure from armed groups, political parties and politically-affiliated youth groups to join their ranks – many of whose activities pose a serious threat to Nepal’s peace process.

August 2008 : Journalists in the Terai region of Nepal are often criticized for failing to keep their stories impartial and for inaccurate reporting on issues that concern the Madhesi people, the predominant ethnic group of the fertile lowland.

May 2008 - In April 2006, mass demonstrations during Jana Andolaan II (People’s Movement) led to the restoration of democracy in Nepal.

April 2008 – With the successful execution of the Constituent Assembly (CA) election on April 10, 2008, Nepal’s political transition has passed a critical milestone. Voter turnout was around 60 percent, and the CA will be tasked with drafting Nepal’s new constitution.

April 2008 : In the months before the April 10 Constituent Assembly elections, Nepal’s eastern Terai experienced a wave of criminal violence and civil disturbances that threatened to delay the polls for a third time.

At the invitation of the US Embassy, Grammy award winning band . USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) funded the band’s Kathmandu concert and brought the message of “Unity in Diversity” to hundreds of thousands of people around the country.
